Our volunteers play a vital role in our mission to build stronger communities for people with disabilities. As a volunteer, you will have the opportunity to work with CASA members on a one-to-one basis at all of our social events. You will be paired with a member and will spend your time with that member during each event.
This usually involves chatting and socialising with the member, as well as participating in activities like painting, bowling, and craft making.
The minimum time commitment is just four hours per month.
At the monthly socials, volunteers will be paired up with a CASA member for the afternoon.
The monthly meetings are an opportunity to assess the success of the socials, to collaborate and to learn.
As fundraising is necessary to support the activities of local groups, volunteers may be asked to assist from time to time.
When CASA was first set up, groups did not pair people off together. It was noticed that some members got left out or lost in the crowd. One-to-one care ensures that all members get the attention or help they need.
It is not the intention that members will only interact with the person they are paired with. It simply guarantees that everyone will be able to participate fully in the activities, with the comfort of knowing they have someone at their side should they need them.
CASA welcomes volunteers from all walks of life and backgrounds. Volunteers are not required to have any previous experience in volunteering or indeed in the area of disability. CASA volunteers typically have the following attributes: positive attitude, team player, good communicator, open-minded, helpful, respectful, enthusiastic, committed, and punctual.
To become a volunteer for CASA, candidates are required to be over the age of sixteen.
Ongoing training and support are also provided to ensure that our volunteers feel confident and well-equipped to carry out their roles.
